South African union ends four-week auto components strike
After four weeks, the South African trade union NUMSA ended a strike at automotive component factories after their employers made concessions on wages. More than 30,000 workers at multiple facilities engaged in the strike that government officials have said may hamper growth, which NUMSA dismissed as brinkmanship. The strike affected BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota, and GM. The estimated cost of the strike to manufacturers is approximately 3,000 fewer vehicles and about $60 million per day.
