South African unions accept government wage offer
Seven out eight South African trade unions accepted a 7.5% pay raise and a 800 rand housing allowance from the government. The only holdout, the teachers' union members agreed to the terms after the leadership saying that the raise was not enough. The agreement comes after months of negotiations and a three-week strike by workers that shut down schools, hospitals and public offices. The strike was suspended last month so the unions could consider the government's offer.
