South African unions threaten to strike 'in seven days'
After the transport and power unions won concessions during the World Cup, a South African coalition of unions wants theirs. The coalition represents around 900,000 workers, including police, doctors, nurses, teachers and office workers. The group turned down a 6.5% wage increase last week. They want an 8.6% increase and a $130 monthly housing allowance. A member of the bargaining team says that they have come to the conclusion that they will strike indefinitely if their demands are not met in the next seven days.
