South Africa's Labor Unions Reject Revised Wage Offer
South African labor federation Cosatu rejected the government's revised wage offer yesterday, sending the strike into its 16th day. A spokesmen for Cosatu said that their members wanted to continue pushing against the government, and that luxury spending by high-ranking members of the government has dulled members' desires to give in to the government. The Independent Labor Caucus, which represents around 200,000 of the striking workers will give its answer to the government in the next two days. Sources say that its members are divided on the offer, and it is hard to know which way they will go. Gas station workers and car parts manufacturers began their own strike yesterday, and miners at the country's largest steel mill plan to strike next week.
