Southhampton City Council refuse collectors on strike
Garbage collectors in England have begun a five-day strike. The strike is part of "rolling" industrial action by Southhampton workers. Unite and Unison, who represent the workers, say that they will announce which group of workers will go on strike next week. The strikes are in response to a proposed pay cut of 5.5%. The City Council says that unless workers accept the cuts, they will have to layoff 400 employees. The unions say that the government has been pressuring workers into accepting the cuts.
