Southwest reduces service in Atlanta, cuts three hundred pilots and flight attendants
Southwest announced that it would reduce the number of flights flying in and out of Atlanta to reduce costs. The company is focused on cutting less profitable routes where demand is lower, and earlier this year Southwest cut services to four different locations. Southwest completely shut down its operations at the Syracuse International Airport, the Bellingham International Airport, the Cozumel International Airport, and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Southwest will also begin assigning seats to passengers and will sell one-third of seats as premium seats that offer passengers more legroom. The change to Southwest operations in Atlanta will cut three hundred pilots and flight attendants, but workers will be offered to relocate to other locations. Workers are represented by the Transport Workers Union, and the union expressed disappointment at the change, stating that it was due to poor management decisions.
