Spain: Labor Unions March Against Government Policies
Employees across Spain congregated in Madrid to protest the government's labor policies. The movement was organized by the county's two major labor unions, UGT and CCOO. The protestors are against the government's reduction of public spending and labor reforms that damage workers' rights. These reforms were implemented to ease the country's economic crisis, but as Spain emerges from its downturn, labor unions are fighting back. The unions believe that these measures limit employees' purchasing power and their rights. Spain's Labor Minister urged the unions to join the government at the bargaining table instead of protesting.
