Spain union calls public sector strike
One of Spain's largest unions, Comisiones Obreras, is expected to call for a public sector strike in response to proposed Spanish austerity measures. The Spanish Prime Minister announced Tuesday that the government planned to cut wages by 5%, and freeze them next year. Officials for the union say that they are not calling for a general strike, saying that decisions like that need to be carefully thought over and considered. Analysts agree, saying that a general strike would probably not get massive public support, unlike in Greece. the austerity measures are aimed at cutting back the Spanish deficit and include public sector wage cuts.
