Starbucks just upgraded paid parental leave. Will more employers follow?
Starbucks has announced that in 2025 it will be increasing its paid parental leave from 6 weeks to 18 weeks for birth parents, and 12 weeks for non-birth parents. This comes as Starbucks has been facing increased union activity, with experts saying that strengthening benefits is a way companies can minimize interest in unions. In a recent survey by WTW, it was found that 84% of employers are planning to make changes to their leave programs over the next two years. With the increased importance employees are placing on leave benefits, they can be a powerful way for employers to promote loyalty and satisfaction in their companies.
