States rebuff federal threat over union laws
Arizona, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah have joined together to defend laws that guarantee secret ballot votes in union elections. The National Labor Relations Board has threatened to sue the states over the laws, which it says conflict with federal law. The amendments were supported by groups who worry that Congress will pass a law requiring employers to recognize unions if a majority sign cards. The states say that the amendments are the will of their voters, and the NLRB should respect that.
