Steelworkers to pressure Congress to end aid to Mexico
In letter sent to Mexican president Felipe Calderon, the head of the United Steelworkers Union declared the union would lobby Congress to stop all US aid to Mexico in an effort to pressure Mexico to end its harassment of labor unions. The statement by Leo Gerard, international president of the Steelworkers, came on the heels of attacks on mining union members late Saturday in Sonora which left one miner dead and over 20 wounded. Labor rights watchdogs blame mining company Grupo Mexico for the incident, calling the attack an "assassination".
