Stellantis announces layoffs to hundreds of office workers
Stellantis, one of the Big Three Automakers, has announced layoffs that will affect four hundred workers. The layoffs are targeted at white-collar employees working in office settings at the Stellanis headquarters and technical center. Workers in the technology, engineering, and software departments, and the layoffs will reduce these departments by around two percent. Stellantis has cited the shift from the production of vehicles with combustion engines to electric vehicles. The job cuts will allow Stellantis to more efficiently reallocate resources, as electric vehicles are significantly more expensive to produce compared to gasoline vehicles. Workers will be provided with severance packages and outplacement services.
