Stellantis temporarily cuts fewer workers than expected at assembly plant in Michigan, but additional indefinite layoffs may occur
Stellantis conducted indefinite layoffs at a facility in Michigan last week but laid off fewer workers than originally anticipated. The layoffs affected workers at a truck assembly plant in Warren, Michigan, which recently ended the production of Ram 1500 classic pickup trucks. The assembly plant also produces the Jeep Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer SUV. When Stellantis announced the indefinite layoffs, the company said that up to 2,450 workers could be affected. Currently, around 1,000 workers are temporarily out of work at the plant, but more indefinite layoffs could be coming. Workers are represented by the United Auto Workers union, and the UAW states that declining demand for the Jeep Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer SUV could result in more furloughs. The UAW predicts that an additional 149 workers will be indefinitely laid off in the coming weeks. Other Stellantis facilities, such as assembly plants in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio, have also cut workers recently.
