Strike by Seattle Teachers Adds to School Turmoil in State
In Seattle, a union representing school teachers has been engaged in collective bargaining over staffing, student testing and pay. Last night, negotiations between the union and the school board came to a halt. As a result, approximately 5,000 teachers voted to go on strike today, which would have been the first day of classes for students in Seattle school districts. This strike, which was the first one in the last 30 years, affected approximately 1,2000 students.
