Strike halts much of Brazil to protest labor, pension laws
Thousands of people in Brazil went on strike today to protest President Temer's proposed changes to the country's pension system and labor laws. According to the CUT union, 35 million citizens stayed home from work today in protest. The strike resulted in public transportation being shut down and the police firing tear gas at protestors who were lighting fires in front of Rio de Janeiro's state assembly. Unions argue that the proposed changes would make workers vulnerable and take away their benefits.
