Strike-hit Indonesia to improve labor conditions
One day after millions of workers staged a strike, the Indonesian government said that it would write new regulations to increase pay and implement improvements for temporary workers. The work res say that companies use temporary workers to do jobs that could be done by regular employees, and that those workers are not paid well and do not receive benefits. Temporary workers are only supposed to be allowed for jobs like transportation and cleaning, not those that are core business functions. Business leaders say that more regulations and worker strikes do not create an attractive market for investment.
