Despite an offer of an almost $29,000 bonus to any striking workers who came back to work, the vast majority of the striking miners at Chile's Collahuasi mine have refused to go back to work. While the union says around 36 workers have taken the deal, the mine says that 120 or 8% have taken them up on their offer. The union represents 1,551 workers. Union leaders have called for renewed contract talks, and say that the workers will not return to work until talks happen. The company has said that its most recent offer was its final. Other unions, including those at a state owned mine, say that they may support the mine workers in their strike. The 18 day strike is the longest since 2006.
