Strikes Continue in France After Pension Bill Voted
Some French workers continued to protest against the pension reform bill that will raise the retirement age. The Socialist Party is appealing the bill in court, a process that is expected to take several weeks before the bill goes into effect. While the number of protesters has decreased, there are still significant disruptions to railway and air transportation services. Strikes at the country's ports have led to a shortage of crude oil for the refineries, just returning to work, to use. The port strike has also affected trucking companies who handle crude oil. The government says that the reform is necessary for the French economy, but unions say that they are not giving up. Another day of protest is planned for November 6.
