Striking workers at Hilton Hawaii Village Waikiki Beach Resort will not return to work until union contract is reached
Two thousand hospitality workers at the Hilton Hawaii Village Waikiki Beach Resort have gone on strike. The resort is the largest hotel in Hawaii, as well as the largest Hilton in the world. Workers are seeking higher wages, as many of them have to have multiple jobs to support their families. In addition, workers are demanding a reduction in workload, after workers were given more duties during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures are still in place, and workers are calling for the return of pre-pandemic policies, including daily room cleanings. Workers state that without daily room cleanings, the cleaning workload significantly increases, and they are urging guests to ask for daily room cleanings. Workers are represented by the Unite Here union, and the union states that workers will continue to strike until a tentative contract agreement is reached.
