Striking writers in talks to launch Web start-ups
In a move that potentially opens the door to an alternative business model for the entertainment industry, at least seven groups of striking Writers Guild of America members are planning to form companies that would bypass the Hollywood studio system and deliver entertainment content to consumers directly over the Internet. The writers cite the spread of broadband Internet access and the increasing length of the strike as factors which led them to pursue these new ventures.
