Stryker plans to layoff hundreds of workers and permanently close Florida plant
Stryker, a major medical technology company, has announced additional layoffs, on top of previously reported layoffs. The layoffs will all occur at the company’s Lakeland facility in Florida and will affect hundreds of workers in total. The company filed a federal WARN Act, which companies are required to file if layoffs will affect a significant number of employees. Stryker’s WARN Act states that around 500 workers will be affected by layoffs, and the plant will permanently shut down in 2026. The most recent WARN Act notice will cut six additional positions, including material handlers, surgical sorting workers, and other production employees. Originally, Stryker planned to close the facility in 2023 and lay off over 520 workers. No affected workers are represented by a labor union, and affected workers will not have bumping rights.
