Student academic workers union to strike across UC on Wednesday and Thursday
About 12,000 student workers represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW) across most University of California campuses will go on strike Wednesday and Thursday. The strike is to protest alleged unfair labor practices committed by the UC administration during negotiations, which have been ongoing since July. Some of the intimidating practices that the administrators have allegedly committed include threatening to take away visas for international student workers, and threatening to fire student workers who go on strike. The union has filed charges with the Public Employees Relations Board in the fall, and an active investigation regarding the accuracy of the claims is currently taking place. The UC Berkeley Faculty Association as well as the Council of UC Faculty Association have shown strong support for the strikes by the student workers.
