Subcontracted workers seek joint employer status and direct negotiations with Alphabet Inc.
Alphabet Inc. subcontractors in Missouri are petitioning to make the company collectively bargain with them. On Tuesday, Alphabet Workers Union filed with the NLRB requesting a unionization vote for staff in Kansas City. The AWU has specified that they are seeking to negotiate with the Alphabet vendor, BDS Solutions Group, that is their official employer but also with Alphabet, the parent company of Google, itself. A former NLRB Chair said this bold move could ensure a years-long legal battle, but it could make a big difference.
