Supreme Court quashes right of farm workers to unionize
After the United Food and Commercial Workers challenged an Ontario law in 2002, the Supreme Court has made a final decision. The UFCW charged that the Agricultural Employees Protection Act violated the right of freedom of association. The Canadian Supreme Court ruled that the law did not violate freedom of association, and that farm workers do not have the right to unionize. The court said that the courts could not grant the right of collective bargaining, but that the decision should be made by the legislature.
