Surge in workplace injuries amongst NYPD officers post-pandemic
The Fiscal 2022 Mayor's Management Report was recently released, and it indicated that workplace injuries amongst NYPD officers have increased significantly compared to the reported data from the previous year. This is partially due to the prevalence of Covid-19 and employees contracting the illness while in the line of duty. Additionally, disaggregated data from the NYPD indicates an increase in "physical" injuries on the job, non-related to Covid, at a higher rate than pre-pandemic numbers. The Police Benevolent Association responded by stating that police officers face increased risks, and this has contributed to many cops leaving the force to pursue other jobs.
