T-Mobile announces surprise layoffs after committing to create thousands of new jobs after Sprint merger
T-Mobile recently announced upcoming layoffs that will impact 5,000 employees. Workers in the T-Mobile corporate offices as well as workers in technology and back office positions will be affected by the layoffs. The company stated that no additional layoffs will be made in the near future, and workers in retail stores will not be affected by the job cuts. The layoffs are attributed to the company’s goal to increase financial efficiency and meet shareholder needs. T-Mobile claims that many of the positions that are being eliminated are duplicate roles, or positions that no longer align with the company’s objectives. The layoffs come as a surprise to many employees, as T-Mobile stated that more positions would be created after the Sprint merger that occurred in 2020.
