Taiwan plastics maker shedding 1,000 workers
Taiwan's largest plastics maker, Nan Ya Plastics, has decided to cut 1,000 jobs this year, or 7.4 percent of its workforce. Citing low profits, the cuts constitute only a portion of the proposed 4,000 job losses that will occur over the next three years, orchestrated by Formosa Plastics Group, which owns Nan Ya. According to the Taipei-based Economic Daily News, Formosa plans to cut its work force as units move low-end production to China and Vietnam
