The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) had recognized a fourth union last week, the TAZARA Workers? Union ? Tanzania (TAWUTA). The TAWUTA recently broke away from the Tanzania Railway Workers Union to join the TAZARA and was looking to further workers? issues that TAZARA had been successful pushing for in the past. The TAZARA now represents 2,800 workers between the two countries. There have been multiple divisions of unions and joining of unions in the recent history of Tanzania and Zambia, but only time will tell if the latest organization will last long enough to affect real change.
