Tappan Zee project to boost unions' political action funds
Laborers working on the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project will have the option to give 5 cents of their hourly wage to the New York State Laborer's Political Action Committee. Many of the unions working on the project have provisions in their collective bargaining agreements that allow a few cents of workers' paychecks to be donated to political action committees. The Laborers PAC is known to use its contributions to support candidates at the state and national level and promote labor friendly ballot initiatives. With an estimated 3,400 workers expected to work on the project over five years, their contributions could amass in as much as $1.22 million in contributions.
