Teachers, students return to Chicago public schools
On Tuesday, the Chicago Teachers' Union voted to end a seven-day strike, returning about 350,000 students to school. The move comes after the union reached a tentative agreement with the city that includes salary increases, as well as a policy on teacher evaluations and recall rights for laid off teachers. Teachers will receive a raises of 7% over the three year agreement. The Mayor said that the agreement included provisions to lengthen the school day and tie student achievement to teacher evaluations. Teachers will vote to ratify the contract in the coming weeks.
