Teachers union sues Jefferson Parish School Board in contract dispute
The Jefferson Federation of Teachers, a Louisiana local teachers? union, stated that it would sue the School Board after the district violated the individual contracts of 12 teachers. The teachers are working under individual contracts after the board, in 2012, refused to renew the collective bargaining agreement that previously covered the teachers. The individual contracts pledged to maintain the former level of benefits and planning time, but since the school year began, the district cut contributions to the teachers? supplemental insurance, denied several teachers planning time and changed policies concerning the accrual of sick leave.
