Teamsters, haulers set to meet with mediator
The Teamsters, the union representing Chicago?s striking garbage workers, and the Chicago Area Refuse Haulers Association have agreed to meet with a mediator to try and reach an agreement and put an end to the strike. On Sunday, the Teamsters voted to reject the last contract offer from management, because they were unsatisfied with the wage and health benefits offered. Mayor Richard Daley has threatened to sue one or both parties in the labor dispute to recover costs related to the strike.
