Teamsters ratify Sikorsky contract
Despite the global economic recession and mass layoffs throughout the U.S., Teamsters Local 1150, representing Sikorsky Aircraft workers in Connecticut and Florida, was able to secure significant wage increases in a contract ratified last night. Terms of the contract (which is effective starting today) include an 18.5% wage increase over the next five years. Sikorsky also conceded to the Teamsters' prescription benefits plan, which will save workers on medication costs. The union noted that negotiations over the new contract were cooperative in nature, with both sides taking the matter very seriously. Total bargaining time was about two months for the five-year contract, which the firm expects will provide long-term labor stability.
