Telecom companies plan for massive workforce reductions within the next few years, replacing many workers with AI to cut costs
Recently, the British telecom company BT announced that it will be eliminating more than 50,000 positions within the next seven years as it leverages technology and AI to reduce business costs. Furthermore, the company stated that of the eliminated roles, one-fifth will be specifically replaced by automation such as chatbots to better deliver online customer service. Other telecom companies have also announced expected workforce reductions within the next few years as traditional telecom companies struggle to compete with other tech companies like Apple and Google.
