Telecom Italia, Unions Reach Agreement on 3,900 Job Cuts, Union Head Says
Telecom Italia signed a deal with labor unions that will cut 3,900 jobs on a voluntary basis through 2012. The number is less that the planned cuts of 6,800 workers, which were announced last April. The deal will also give 2,200 workers "solidarity contracts," which include fewer hours and lower pay. Under the terms of the agreement, there will be no more layoffs for three years. Spokesman for the unions and company were in favor of the deal, saying it was a positive outcome.
