Temporary workers carve out alternative careers
For more workers, temporary assignments are becoming a way to get by during the recession, or even a welcome change. According to the Department of Labor, the number of temporary workers is at its highest level in five years, and a survey showed that about 21% of employers plan to hire temporary employees. For some workers, flexible hours and job approval are benefits to taking temporary jobs. Staffing agencies are more likely to offer health care and other benefits to employees, including retirement plans. While temporary employment works for some, others would prefer to have full-time jobs.
