Texas nurses union turns focus to Dallas-Fort Worth hospitals
The recent run of victories by National Nurses United in organizing nurses in Texas has surprised many, given the states' long history of anti-unionism. Now, the union will turn its attention to the city of Dallas, hoping to organize nurses at three of the city's hospitals over the next year. Although companies such as Texas Health Resources, which operates 13 hospitals in North Texas, are hoping to forestall the union push by by increasing wages and improving benefits, union organizers are confident that the tide has turned in Texas, and that it is only a matter of time before most hospitals in the state are unionized.
