The draw of diversity
A recent study that looked at four companies with diverse staffs found that racial and gender diversity did not have any significant impact on profitability. The study's key conclusion was that companies need to manage diversity better in order to turn it into an asset. Experts suggest that managers need to provide the skills to help people learn from each other's background while bringing out the strengths of different people. It is not enough to simply recruit a diverse workforce?employers need to make diverse groups feel valued and included. Companies also have to work to overcome biases that may persist in the culture.
