The Emergence of Gig Economy Unions
In May 2019 a global strike of Uber drivers occurred. Since that global strike, drivers for other app-based companies have attempted organizing internationally. As a result of funding from the Open Society Foundations, drivers for app-based companies have hosted a conference with attendees from over 23 countries, with the goal of creating an international union for gig economy workers.
