The New Face of Solidarity
Though the UAW convention brought with it a somber tone and worries about job losses, the outlook for some sectors of the American labor movement is not as bleak. Unions in the service industry are pushing for new membership and fighting for job gains. For example, Unite Here is seeking to organize thousands of nonunion Hilton workers in a battle that could culminate in a strike at many Hiltons this summer.
