The New York State Nurses’ Association, representing nurses in Utica, sends cease and desist letter and files for unfair labor practices against local healthcare system
Nurses who work at Wynn Hospital in Utica participated in strike action for two days in October, and the Mohawk Valley Health System is threatening to punish nurses who took part in the strike. Mohawk Valley Health System states that the strike action violated the terms of their contracts. Nurses are represented by the New York State Nurses’ Association, and the association has filed a claim of unfair labor practices with the National Labor Relations Board, and the association has also sent a cease and desist letter to the Mohawk Valley Health System. The cease and desist letter was sent in response to the Mohawk Valley Health System releasing a list of employees who would be at risk of punishment for going on strike. The association states that the surveillance and threats to nurses who participated are unlawful behavior. The two parties have been a part of ongoing negotiations and a federal mediator has become involved in the negotiations, but an agreement has not been reached.
