The real deal behind the 94 million Americans Trump says are out of work
In a speech to Congress yesterday evening, President Trump portrayed the job market as weak by citing the misleading statistic that 94 million Americans are out of the labor force. The statistic is misleading because the labor force includes those who voluntarily exit the labor pool: retirees, people with disabilities, college students, and people caring for family members. In reality, the U.S. unemployment rate is currently at 4.8%, a figure that the Federal Reserve signifies that the country has almost reached "full employment", thus the unemployment rate can not get much lower.
