The Sacramento City Unified School District will continue to negotiate with various unions that represent the district’s teachers, principals, and other school employees
Unionized teachers and other employees who work in schools in the Sacramento area have gone on strike twice in 2022 due to unsuccessful negotiations with the Sacramento City Unified School District. These workers are represented by various unions, including the Sacramento City Teachers Association, Service Employees International Union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and Unified Professional Educators. A new school district superintendent was installed in 2023, and contract negotiations between the district and the unions greatly improved. The parties agreed on an 8.22% increase in wages, to keep up with inflation levels as well as the pay rate in other surrounding school districts. The Sacramento City Unified School District is seeking more workers, as the number of employee vacancies increased due to workers leaving for other opportunities. Some of the unions reached tentative agreements with the district in late 2023, while the other unions will negotiate with the school district and are seeking new contracts in 2024.
