The technology industry continues to advance and develop AI, allowing artificial intelligence to have more applications and become a more efficient tool. The tech industry has experienced the benefits of AI, but also the downsides of this new technology. Various companies in the industry have laid off employees due to AI-related reasons. Chegg laid off 4% of its workforce and Dropbox laid off 16% of its workforce, and both companies cited new AI initiates as the reason for the layoffs. Company resources are being shifted to focus on the use of AI long term, and Dropbox stated that they will search for AI-related skill sets in future hires.
