The United Auto Workers union and General Motors reach a tentative agreement
General Motors and the United Auto Workers union reached a tentative agreement early Monday after negotiations between the two parties occurred over the weekend. All of the Big 3 Automakers have agreed on tentative contracts with the UAW, and if all three contracts are ratified, employees will return to work after being on strike for six weeks. General Motors would risk giving up $200 million in revenue this week if they did not reach a tentative agreement, and GM would be unable to open a new SUV factory in Tennessee, and production would be halted at GM’s largest plant, as the plant was the next targeted strike location by the UAW. The agreement reached is largely similar to the tentative contracts between the UAW and Ford, and the UAW and Stellanis. The contracts will increase real wages by 25%, and increase wages overall by 30%, due to accounting for increases in inflation.
