The United Food & Commercial Workers Union advises Kroger employees to vote against proposed union contract
Kroger employees at various grocery stores in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia will vote on a proposed union contract as well as potential strike authorization. Employees are represented by the United Food & Commercial Workers union, and the union is recommending workers to vote against the union contract presented by Kroger, and to vote in favor of authorization strike action. Workers will vote throughout the week, and the final results will be announced on Friday. If workers vote in approval of strike authorization, the union will be able to declare strike action in the near future. If strike action occurs, a total of three thousand workers will walk out. Kroger stated that the proposed contract increases wages by over twenty-five percent, and the improvements to pay and employee benefits would cost the company $300 million. For employees in West Virginia, the new contract would increase the wages of associates by at least two dollars per hour.
