Thousands of academic workers at Rutgers University, including faculty and postdoc associates, begin strike in protest of stalled contract negotiations
On Monday, thousands of academic workers across three Rutgers University campuses voted in favor of and began striking. This marks the first strike in the university's history, and the union representing faculty and postdoctoral associates is demanding salary increases aligned with inflationary pressure, better job security, and more involved race and gender equity initiatives. The decision to strike comes after a year of contract negotiations with no agreement; however, university representatives have expressed disappointment in the decision. In general, there has been an uptick in labor actions on college campuses recently, such as the University of California academic workers strike last year.
