Thousands of Polish union members march through Warsaw to demand labor security, higher pay
Although Poland weathered the recession better than most European countries, tension has been growing as more changes to the retirement age, pensions, and taxes have taken effect. More than 10,000 people organized by the Solidarity trade union marched in Poland?s capital against the policies of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who once was one of Poland?s most popular politicians. Poland?s growth rate is expected to increase to 2.4% next year, but average wages continue to be below EU averages.
