To close ranks around Obama, labor hits streets
Under political director Pilar Weiss, the influential Culinary Union of Nevada has taken to the streets leading the Change to Win labor federation in support of Senator Barack Obama. 95 campaigners have made almost 90,000 visits to union member households in an effort to secure votes for the Democratic presidential candidate. Union campaigners are working extra hours to round up support for Obama, particularly since many members supported Senator Hillary Clinton during the presidential caucus. That divide in political support appears to have lessened now, as more and more members are backing Obama. Not all households have been receptive to the visits, but the group will continue to vigorously campaign for the rapidly approaching election anyway.
