Top Aide to Teamsters Chief Is Suspended
An independent union oversight board for the Teamsters announced yesterday it is suspending Carlow Scalf a top assistant to Teamsters president, James P. Hoffa. The suspension came after an investigation which found Mr. Scalf was improperly taking a housing allowance. Mr. Scalf claimed he inadvertently failed to inform the union when he sold his house in Washington, where the union is based. He has agreed to a settlement and to repay the money.
